“S” Endorsement
Committee:
February 24th is the next meeting but there are new developments to announce.
Pat Bailey reported that there will now be a lot of exemptions. As it turns
out, the Federal Government has reviewed the 19-A program that New York has
in place. They have determined that our program meets the basic requirements
of the new Federal Law in most cases. They have deemed that any 19-A Driver
who has taken the Biennial Road test and written test between 2002 and now,
to be exempt. That means only a limited number of drivers will need to be tested
to qualify for their new “S” endorsement. What remains to be discussed
is who, and how they will be tested. Pat will report back with more definite
answers after the February meeting.
“Entertainment” Committee: No report at this time.
Old Business:
1. Reminder that the Safety & Maintenance Seminar will be held February
24-26 at the Desmond Inn
in Albany. There are still plenty of rooms available. The committee and contractors
have worked
very hard to make it a very productive couple of days.
2. Lobby Day is April 12 in Albany. It is a great experience! Try to attend
if you can!
3. Peter Manella has received only a few responses to his recently issued survey
on Anti-Idling. He reminds us to please e-mail him with the responses about
what our districts are doing on a local level regarding these issues. A copy
of the survey is posted again at the end of these minutes.
New Business:
1. There will be changes in our July Conference this year. There will be classes
on Sunday and the
conference will close on Wednesday.
2. Dave Fuller, at the request of the Superintendent of Dryden CSD, has come
up with a “Bus
Advisory Procedure.” This will be implemented in extreme inclement weather
and will be
transmitted to parents and students via TV and Radio along with closings and
delays.
Basically what it means is that drivers of school buses will not expect students
to be
“waiting” at pick up points upon arrival of bus in extreme weather
and that students who in
a walk to school zone will be offered bus transportation from designated pick
up points. It
is expected that students leave their residence in time to meet bus as it arrives
at the stop.
The buses will not be expected to wait unreasonable amounts of time. He has
written out the plan
if anyone would like a copy.
No 50-50 today.
