Committee Reports:

Legislative Committee: No report at this time.

Lobby Day is Tuesday, May 2nd .

Communications Committee:

A Board meeting in Albany is scheduled for March 10th and Pat will bring back any pertinent and important information.  A CD is being put together by NYAPT.  It will be to inform our communities about what we do as a state association.  Matt will go and find out what it would involve to get involved at this level.  We will get a copy of the CD at the conference in July.   We locally, need to get more involved with all the committees on the State Level.  We need to take a more active part.   We could possibly take turns going so it would be no “one” persons’ burden to go all the time.  We actually do very little locally and have little representation at committee meetings on the state level.  (Our local committees have little to report because they are not going to Sate level meetings to bring back information)  We will soon be sending around a Committee Volunteer Sign Up Sheet to get people to volunteer to take turns and go to Albany to the various committee meetings and bring back information.  It only would involve 4 weekends a year!  If everyone does their part and picks just one weekend – it could be very successful!  Think about it!

Special Needs Committee : No Report at this time.

We need someone to go to Albany and obtain any new information.

SBDI + MI :  No report at this time.

This Committee seems to be falling apart in Albany.  There may be more information in March at the board meeting.   There is a lot of money in training funds – controlled by SED.  It seems that every year we have to fight for the allocated $400,000 every year.

Head Mechanics Committee: No Report at this time.

Job postings:

Solvay CSD is still looking for a Transportation Director. They are actively interviewing.

Rodeo:

This year’s Rodeo is going to be at Oswego County Fair Grounds again – On May 20, 2006.

Rich Denison has volunteered to contact the vendors for the event.

Poster Committee:

The theme for 2006 will be – BE AWARE! CROSS WITH CARE!

Diamond is going to compete again in the speech contest.   She would someday like to be an attorney.  She has applied at 3 or 4 Colleges and has already been accepted at 2.  Way to Go Diamond!

Safety Committee:  No report at this time.

Scholarship Committee: No report at this time.

State Fair Committee: No Go for this year.

Summer Safety Camp:

The committee is due to meet soon.  The safety camp will be on June 23, 24 + 25 at Hobart College.

Professional Development Committee: No Report at this time.

Information will follow after Lobby Day on May 2nd.

DOT – DMV – No report at this time.

Operation Safe Stop:

This year 1295 tickets state wide were issued for passing a stopped school bus

42 counties participated

71 police agencies participated

654 police officers participated

There is still talk about having Operation Safe Stop 2 times next year (once in Sept-Oct. and once in March)

Old Business:

  1. Dues were due December 1st and there are still some members who have not paid.

These need to be paid! – Please contact Karen Doucette to be sure if you have paid

     or not.

  1. There is still room at the winter workshops if anyone is interested.  Tuesday nights Hotel situation is resolved now.
  2. June’s meeting this year will be the normal scheduled meeting.  The second Thursday in June.  (June 8th)  - The golfing will now be up to individuals.
  3. Chuck is feeling better and may go back to work this week or next.

New Business:

1.     The subject of parent – waivers came up.  We cannot ask parents to

“sign off” for their children not to ride a bus.

2.     Jim Ellis is looking into the RR crossing in Oswego being made

“Exempt.”  Apparently an Oswego county 19-A Examiner has

approached Jim about this.  Dave Deuel is going to contact Tom Gunn

about it as a 1st step in us looking into this as a Chapter.

3.     NYAPT is still looking for ideas for the conference in July.

4.     Housing (Hotel reservations) this coming year will no longer be handled by the NYAPT office.  Karen Doucette will still handle the housing request on the local level for our Chapter  - It will be a 1st come, 1st serve basis for Karen’s end and we need to put down a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice.  It would seem fair that each district should have a shot at getting 1 room at the turf.  Karen would also like to look at more criteria and will look at past years preferences.

5.     A “Training Our Dispatchers Seminar will be held on April 19th @ Monroe County BOCES – and on June 27th at Nassau BOCES.

6.     This year we will be electing New Officers for the state level.  We will be discussing absentee ballots.

7.     School Transportation Appreciation Week is May 15th  - 19th  this year!

8.     Nancy Naples is the new Commissioner of Motor Vehicles.

9.     It is time to start thinking of Nominations for the Art Shock award.
