CNYAPT  MEETING DECEMBER 8, 2005

 

President Dave Deuel called the meeting to order at 10:23 a.m. at Kelly Coles Restaruant with 25 members present.  Followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  Thanks to Bus Parts Warehouse for sponsoring our meeting today.

 

Secretary’s Report  

A motion was made by Rick Abend, seconded by Al Humbert, to accept the minutes from the 11/17/2005 meeting. Motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report

Karen was not here today and we had no Treasure’s report.  The e-mail I received a couple of days later from her was with a balance carried forward of $1,494.36.

 

Committee Reports

 

Legislative Committee:

Bob Peters  just wanted to pass along that the NYAPT Board again approved the Winter Workshop Agenda.  The workshop will be held in Albany at the Turf on Feb. 22-25.

Dave Fuller wanted to bring up the Commercial Driver Sanction Changes – Check the NYAPT website for these changes.

 

Head Mechanics Committee: No Report at this time.

 

Job postings: No report at this time.

 

Rodeo:

The State Special Needs Rodeo is looking for teams.  Let us know if anyone is interested.

 

Poster Committee:

The theme for 2006 will be – BE AWARE! CROSS WITH CARE!

 

Safety Committee:  No report at this time.

 

Scholarship Committee:.

Mike will be here later today to discuss his wish for a local scholarship to be given specifically from our Chapter to Sons/daughters of school transportation department personnel working in the CNY Chapter area.

 

Special Needs Committee : No Report at this time.

 

State Fair Committee:

The State Fair is a NO GO this year as not enough Chapters would volunteer.  Only 4 chapters out of 20 were willing to send staff for a day..

 

SBDI + MI :  No report at this time.

 

Summer Safety Camp:

The committee is due to meet soon.  The safety camp will be on June 23, 24 + 25 at Hobart College.

 

Professional Development Committee: No Report at this time.

 

DOT – DMV – No report at this time.

 

Operation Safe Stop:

This year 1295 tickets state wide were issued for passing a stopped school bus

42 counties participated

71 police agencies participated

654 police officers participated

There is still talk about having Operation Safe Stop 2 times next year (once in Sept-Oct. and once in March)

 

Communications Committee: No report at this time.

 

Old Business:

Dues were due December 1st and there are still some members who have not paid.  These need to be paid! – Please contact Karen Doucette to be sure if you have paid or not.

 

New Business:

  1. A motion was made by Judy Clarke, seconded by Peg Gilbert, to nominate Linda  

      Robinson for membership in our Chapter.  Motion carried.  Linda is the new

      Dispatcher at F-M.  Welcome Linda and congratulations!

  1. Mr. Martinez has resigned as the DMV Commissioner of Motor Vehicles.
  2. DMV is giving a close look to LED lights and the present policy. Presently if only one LED light is out- the bus fails.
  3. We still need to decide when we want the last meeting in June to be so that most people will be able to attend.
  4. Since the State Fair display is a no go as far as a State Representation – Would our Chapter want to do it for the whole 13 days.  This will be up for discussion at our next meeting so everyone give it some thought.
  5. Bob Peters said that the NYAPT Board has approved the Certification Course. He has yet to find out what will be on the test.
  6. F-M has gotten permission from the district to build a “SAFE-BUS”.  They have looked at the one in Owego and are presently coming up with some great ideas.  Matthews Buses may donate a bus for them to use.  Any ideas or contributions would certainly be welcome.The new phone number at F-M is 692-1218.
  7. In 2008 it will be the 50th Anniversary of the NYAPT .  It will be the 35th anniversary of the conference and the 25th anniversary of the conference being at the Turf.   We will be looking for any “old” material, pictures, meeting minutes, etc. anyone may have.  Joyce McMaster will talk to John Durfee

 

 

 

Round Table:

Tom Gunn:              Things are going well in Oswego.  No snow yet but it is expected!

Ken Holland:           Things are good in Phoenix.

Terri Kuss:               Things are great in Syracuse.  Happy Holidays!

Kathryne Rivas:       Merry Christmas!

Al Humbert:             The sun is shining in Mexico!

Rick Abend:             Things are “status quo” – Happy Holidays!

Helen Duda:             They are all still in the trailer and expect to be there until the end of

                                 February.  It has been very, very “tight”  - Happy Holidays!

Ann Hamlin:            Happy Holidays!

Cindy Raulli:           Things are going well in Liverpool.  Her training is going great!

Diane Watkins:        There have been many changes in many districts this past year.

                                 Many districts have new Superintendents.  Is anyone having any

                                 problems as far as their transportation department and the way things

                                 are running verses how they used to run before the new Super??

Carol Hawk:              Thanks to Cindy Raulli for mentoring her on her 30 hour course.  It

                                  went very well!  They are in the process of a Civil Service Audit in

                                  Weedsport.  It is something we have never heard of before.  It was

                                  quite a surprise!  They are checking everyone’s titles – making sure

                                  where the outgoing went and new coming in are and if %’s are correct.

                                   It should prove to be interesting.

Our guest speaker today will be Officer Gary Bulinski from the Syracuse Police Department.

 

Mike Janisch came in late and asked that we re-open the meeting to discuss the new Scholarship program.  The meeting was again called to order at 11:30 a.m..

 

A scholarship application was passed around to everyone in attendance along with the rules and qualifications for applying.

He would like to start a local scholarship – available to any of the sons/daughters of school transportation department personnel working in the CNY Chapter area.  All applications must be sent to Dave Deuel @ F-M no later than June 1st 2006.

 

He would like the Scholarship to be for $400.00 – awarded annually. 

(if enough funds are raised there could be two scholarships awarded)

 

A Scholarship Committee consisting of a chairperson and 3 additional members will be formed to select the winner.

 

50/50 raffles will be used to help assist in raising a portion of the scholarship funds.

 

A motion was made by Dave Deuel, seconded by Joyce McMaster , to have at least one $400.00 scholarship awarded each year on behalf of this Chapter to qualifying  sons/daughters of school transportation department personnel working in the CNY Chapter area.  Motion  carried.

 

We also want to wish Patti Pratt a wonderful retirement.  She is set to retire in February. Hopefully we will get to see her at the January meeting!

 

No 50/50 today.
